The huge waterpark in the UK which is reopening this weekend – after closing four years ago

A HUGE waterpark is reopening in the UK this weekend after it closed its doors to the public four years ago.

Splash World in Southport was temporarily closed in late 2019 for a refurbishment, but that project was extended considerably by the Covid-19 pandemic.

has been launched alongside the reopening, with a bespoke online booking system, to make it easier for people to plan their visits.

As well as rides, the park also has Murtle's Diner on-site, selling pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and other meals and snacks.

Prior to its closure in 2019, the park was very popular with families, with its variety of slides impressing visitors.

One wrote on TripAdvisor: "Doughnut slides were fun and kids enjoyed it.

"Then you have 2 other slides that you don’t sit on anything - one's a family slide and one for the more daring people!"

Another said: "We spent 5 hours there (yes!) and had to drag the kids away from the rubber rings!"

A third added: "Come rain or shine the whole family will have a fantastic time, there really is something for all age groups from teenagers to babies, not to be missed."

The park's refurbishment was initially due to be completed after a few months, but was delayed during the pandemic, when Sefton council transformed it into a Covid testing facility.

However, they have since completed all the necessary work and in-house safety assessments, meaning it can finally reopen to the public.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said in a press release: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome back our valued guests to Splash World.

“The reopening marks an exciting milestone for us, and we have taken every measure possible to once again provide an extremely enjoyable, safe experience for all visitors.

“Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline rush on our exhilarating slides or a relaxing time in the lazy river, Splash World has something for everyone.

“Nobody could have foreseen the pandemic or that it would mean Splash World being closed for this length of time, but I know our teams did everything they could to ensure the venue was reopened as soon as possible.”

The waterpark isn't the only popular attraction reopening to the public this weekend.

Alton Towers' dark drop tower Nemesis Sub-Terra first opened in 2012, only to close three years later as part of a downsizing of the park in 2015.

However, it is also opening again on May 27, just in time for the May half term.

Meanwhile, this new £250million waterpark is coming to the UK.
