SUMMER'S LOOKING ROSY

The incredible beach in the UK with stretches of pink sand

PINK sand beaches are mainly associated with exotic destinations like Bermuda and Indonesia.

But a seaside town in Devon has its very own beach which, in the right light, has stunning stretches of pink sand.

Paignton Beach is part of the English Riviera and has stretches of pink sand.

In recent years, day-trippers have taken to TripAdvisor to rave about the pink sand at Paignton.

One person wrote: "My daughter loved the pink sand! The beachfront is good too, it's tidy and clean and was not crowded."

Meanwhile, other tourists to the beach have described the sand as "red" rather than pink.

In another review, someone else added: "Although the sand is red/terracotta colour, the beach is safe for children."

The pinky-red shade is caused by iron minerals in the sand oxidising with the air.

Other beaches in the area like Broadsands Beach and Goodrington Sands are also known for their unusual pinky-red shade of sand.

While most holidaymakers will spend a day relaxing on the sand, there are also various other attractions including Paignton Pier.

Nearby, there's also Splashdown Quay West - the UK's largest outdoor water park.

Other activities include a visit to Elberry Cove and a hike up Roundham Head for breathtaking views.

Paignton Beach is a four-hour drive from London, but can be reached on a direct train from London Paddington to Paignton.

We've found return train tickets for £60.50 for a full-paying adult.

This isn't the only beach with unusual sand, a beach in Spain that has sand shaped like popcorn.

Meanwhile, there are only four beaches in the world that have green sand.
