ALTON Towers has given the public a first look at its new ride, which is opening later this month.

The Curse at Alton Manor will take visitors on a journey of twists and turns through a cursed manor.

Information about the ride had previously been kept to a minimum, but the theme park has released pictures and details of what visitors can expect from the new attraction.

In a press release, they describe it as a "haunting and immersive dark ride" that charts the terrifying story of Emily Alton - whose Victorian high society figures parents disappear one evening, leaving her behind.

The release continues: "Some say she still haunts Alton Manor to this day looking for the one thing denied to her – play."

Through a dozen scenes, visitors are taken on a step-by-step journey as Emily "wreaks her awful revenge".

The ride includes cutting-edge audio technology that will make guests "feel that Emily is talking directly to them", while advanced 3D projection-mapping will help bring each scenario to life.

These include The Grand Hall, where an opulent party becomes a scene of death with skeletal bodies lying slumped at tables.

The Demon Doll Workshop gives visitors an insight into the mind of Emily with an operating table at its centre and human-size dolls lining the walls.

Meanwhile, The Attic is where the lonely and forgotten child sat on her own with just a doll’s house to entertain her.

Ride creators have also hidden fairytale easter eggs in each of the rooms that visitors are encouraged to discover.

Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said: “We’re delighted to finally be able to take the wraps off The Curse at Alton Manor and welcome those brave enough to enter.

“We’ve harnessed the power of cutting edge technology to provide a fully immersive experience that blurs the line between reality and Emily’s demonic world.

“Visitors will even seem to disappear in front of their very eyes as a result of a spine-chilling array of special effects and visuals that have never been seen before from a UK theme park."

The ride won't be the only one new one at Alton Towers in the near future, with a new £12.5m attraction soon to go under development.

Plans for a new rollercoaster at the park have been given the green light.

Although little is known about the new attraction, the words “new rollercoaster” and “new coaster” both appear in the planning application, providing a bit of a hint.

It is currently being referred to as Project Horizon.
