Why Agadir?

While Brits often head to Marrakech for their holiday in Morocco, Agadir has some of the best beaches in the country.

It is the largest seaside resort in Morocco, with the city being completely rebuilt in the 1960s following a devastating earthquake.

There are direct flights just under four hours from the UK to Agadir too, which can be found for less than £20 with Ryanair.

The temperature remains above 21C even in December and January, with average summer temperatures around 27C.

Last year, Agadir was found to be the cheapest all-inclusive holiday destination for Brits.

The research, conducted by Savoo, said: “The city of Agadir in Morocco is the cheapest location for an all-inclusive.

"A Moroccan getaway costs an impressive £490 on average.

"With beaches close by, Agadir is a must-go destination [...] on a budget.”

What is Agadir like?

The coastal city has a huge stretch of beach with golden sands.

Most people visit Agadir for surfing, with great waves and lifeguards throughout the busy summer.

Popular in Morocco are hammams, offering a bath and spa experience often followed by a massage, and there are loads to choose from in Agadir.

A trip to the markets is also popular with tourists, and Souk El Had has more than 6,000 stalls with homeware, spices and food, and it is encouraged to haggle.

Otherwise there are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from on the marina.

Tourists can also visit the nearby area of Taghazout, also popular with surfers, or head south to the Souss-Massa National Park.

What else do I need to know about Agadir?

Agadir is just one hour ahead of the UK.

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham which has to be bought in the country, with around £10 working out to 125 dirham.

The local languages are Arabic and French, although some resorts may speak English.

Brits don't need a visa if staying for less than three months, and it is advised to have at least three months left on your passport from the date you enter Agadir.

All Covid restrictions were lifted to enter Agadir although passengers will need to fill in a health form on arrival
