Dubbed "Skeg Vegas" by locals, the town of Skegness in Lincolnshire has slot machines and a busy nightlife with cabaret performances.

In honour of the town's title, a local business owner spent £36,000 installing a replica Las Vegas sign with the inscription: "Welcome to Fabulous Skeg Vegas, not in Nevada."

According to, Skegness Raceway Stadium said: "We decided to put a smile on everyone’s face and put something back into the community, oh and also light up the sky!"

The light-up billboard became an internet sensation with tourists flocking from across the globe to take a photo in front of the flashing lights.

One person travelled from Stockholm in Sweden to take a picture with the sign.

They wrote on Instagram: "Loving the new Skeg Vegas sign on the way into this popular seaside town."

But the sign is just the tip of the Vegas iceberg for the town.

Skegness is home to a number of amusement arcades, including Harris Amusements, Funland Amusements, J S Ling Amusements and PLR Amusements to name a few.

There's also Skegness Pier where travellers can go ten pin bowling, scale a climbing wall and laser questing.

The pier is right next to Skegness beach which has traditional seaside activities including donkey rides and a Ferris wheel.

Throughout the year, the town also plays host to several cabaret events where holidaymakers can enjoy a musical performance.

Other popular attractions include the Nautureland Seal Sanctuary, where guests can get up close and personal with seals, penguins, fish and reptiles.

There's also an aquarium, miniature railway, an aqua park, a donkey sanctuary, and a nature reserve.

Meanwhile, one forgotten seaside town in the south of England has won praise by a former Bond girl - it has sandy beaches and ferry links to Europe.

And in November, Time Out named another forgotten seaside town in East Sussex as the best place for a day out or overnight trip in 2023.
