Sneak a peak at Universal Orlando’s new Volcano Bay
Giant Krakatau Aqua Coaster, opening next summer, will be the centrepiece at Florida’s thrilling new water park
Universal Orlando are giving us a first glimpse of their latest park – and it looks like a winner.
The Krakatau Aqua Coaster will be the main attraction at the new Volcano Bay Water Park, slated for an early summer 2017 opening.
The new park fills 30 acres of sun-soaked Orlando, next door to Universal’s giant Islands of Adventure and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Dominated by the 200ft high Krakatau volcano, it promises dozens of attractions for all ages, including a wave pool with a sandy beach, a peaceful winding river, twisting river rapids and speedy body slides.
But the highlight will no doubt be the Krakatau Aqua Coaster. Guests will board what looks like a four man canoe which then shoots down – and up! – through the volcano’s interior.
And even better: they are trying to do away with the queue. Visitor’s get a new wearable device called a TapuTapu which alerts you when it is your turn to ride. It sounds like the queue buster devices already in use at certain parks and if it works it will make a visit a whole lot easier.
If you want to be among the first to try it, have a Three-Park Explorer ticket which includes 14 nights’ access to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and the new Volcano Bay. Adult tickets are from £229 for travel next June.
