How you can get free priority boarding on your flight to Spain without paying a penny

BRITS flying to Spain in the next six months can get free priority boarding and fast-track security depending on the airline.

The offer is part of British Airways' new passport-free travel trial being rolled out at Heathrow Airport.

The freebies are for anyone signing up for the trial at Heathrow Terminal 5

They are the first UK airline to trial biometric technology, supplied by Amadeus Biometric Solutions.

Passengers who sign up will be invited to scan their face, passport and boarding pass on their phone before they fly.

On arrival at the airport, using the Smart Bio-Pod cameras, passengers can have their identity checked in three seconds - without needing to flash their passport.

Passengers who sign up for the trial, currently only for Brits travelling with BA to Malaga via Terminal 5 at Heathrow, will be given complimentary priority boarding and free fast-track security.

This means families will have a much easy - and quicker - journey when boarding their flight.

And all Covid restrictions have been scrapped for Brits heading to Spain, making a holiday to the country even easier.

David Breeze, Operations Transformation Manager for British Airways, said it hoped to be a "smarter and smoother airport experience" as well as "reduce the time it takes us to board the aircraft".

If the trial is successful, it’s expected to be extended to more international flights.

It isn't the only method being trialed across airports - Brits returning to the UK will soon be able to skip the long passport queues thanks to new technology.

Earlier this year, the Home Office announced that Brits will instead be able to travel via 'contactless smart corridors' at airports, using facial recognition.

So holidaymakers will be able to speed through the airport without having their passports checked at the border.

The plans will be trialed in 2024, with hopes to be fully operational by 2025.

A similar scheme is already used at Eurostar terminals in Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels.

Other trials include next-generation scanners that will let passengers keep their shoes on at airport security gates.
