BACK IN TIME

Tuck into super sausages and feast your eyes on pretty sights in Prague

From a medieval skyline and cobbled streets to a beautiful main square with one of the world’s oldest astronomical clocks, visit Prague and you’ll feel instantly transported back in time.

First, hit the Old Town Hall, with its glass elevator whisking you up to a 360-degree view of the red-roof-topped city.

A Prague Visitor Pass gets you in, as well as to 60 other experiences, plus free public transport – £65.50 per adult for 48 hours ().

Then take a walking tour of the Jewish Quarter, home to Europe’s oldest synagogue, for a moving history lesson, £14.30 per adult ().

Later, cross the famous Charles Bridge to the pretty area of Malá Strana and spy bright baroque houses nestled below Prague Castle.

The city may have a rep as a stag-party hot spot, thanks to its abundance of beer halls, but cool cocktails are also on tap.

SIP A SPICY TODDY

Catch a tram to modern food hall Manifesto in the Andel neighbourhood, 20 minutes from the Old Town ().

Fab cocktail bar Soot mixes up home-made syrups with fresh, local ingredients – we loved the seasonal Spicy Toddy – hot gin with pumpkin and tangerine – £5.10 (), while the 14 restaurants there offer everything from Ukrainian dumplings to Venezuelan empanadas.

For a local pilsner with a view, head to Letenský Zámecek’s garden bar, in the green expanse of Letná Park ().

FEAST RIVERSIDE

Cool but laid-back Lokál Dlouhááá, with its industrial decor, own-brewed beer and classic Czech dishes, is a must.

Start with a medley of sausages, before delicious mains like red-onion-and-caper-rich beef tartare with fried bread, £9.75, and sides of tangy cabbage and horseradish salad.

Puddings of meringue-like Czech biscuits with whipped cream, £2, are also a delight.

Wash it all down with Lokál’s own draughts, including a foamy black caramel malt and aromatic-hop-blended Kozel, £1.80 a pint ().

Fancy something more special? Set beside the Vltava river, which cuts through the city, restaurant Mlýnec has gorgeous views over the Charles Bridge.

Feast on the likes of veal fillet schnitzel and chocolate pud with kiwi and hazelnuts – £87 for four courses with wine pairings ().

HAVE AN ART ATTACK

The city has modern museums aplenty. Our fave was Dox: Prague’s Centre for Contemporary Art in the hip former industrial district of Holešovice.

Step inside the huge Airship Gulliver and explore eye-catching exhibitions, before hitting the sweet cafe and terrace.

Adult tickets cost £9.05 ().

Nearby is Vnitroblock, a refurbished factory now home to a cool coffee house and indie boutiques selling everything from colourful cacti to cute kids’ clothes – plus there’s a selfie-perfect yard scrawled with street art (.
