TUI forced to cancel flights to popular holiday destination – find out if yours is affected

TUI has been forced to cancel a number of flights due to Hurricane Ian in the US.

The hurricane has already caused widespread distruction, knocking out Cuba's entire power grid after 125mph wind speeds.

Millions of Americans are now on high alert as the storm moves across Florida as a Category Four hurricane.

TUI has been forced to cancel a number of flights from the UK to Melbourne Orlando, the airport in Florida families travel to especially when going on Disney breaks.

They were forced to cancel two flights yesterday, with more affected this week.

TUI said in a statement: "Following a review of the official forecast for Hurricane Ian, Melbourne Orlando has confirmed the closure of the airport until Friday 30th September.

"Unfortunately, this means the following flights will now not be able to operate as planned: 

"Thursday 29th September:  

  • TOM742 – Glasgow to Melbourne Orlando 
  • TOM664 – Birmingham to Melbourne Orlando 

"Friday 30th September:  

  • TOM046 – Gatwick to Melbourne Orlando 
  • TOM754 – Newcastle to Melbourne Orlando 

"We plan to reschedule the above flights to Florida once the airport has reopened.

"We are in close contact with Melbourne Orlando Airport, and we will be updating customers as soon as we receive any further information."

They added that any TUI customers already in Florida should contact the TUI team on +4433 33 365 147. 

They continued: "We will be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date order to discuss their options. 

"We apologise for the disruption to our customers’ holidays, and we’d like to thank them for their understanding."

TUI flights to Cuba remain unaffected, as they confirmed there was "minimal damage to our resorts in Varadero".
