Mum ditches son in economy but pays for nanny’s first class plane ticket – and people are surprisingly on HER side

A WOMAN admitted to paying for her family's nanny to fly in first class while leaving her teenage son in economy.

But surprisingly, people are on her side.

The mum said their 18-year-old Matt had become "selfish and elitist" in recent years.

When they decided to go on a long holiday, she said they were paying for their 45-year-old nanny, who looked after their three kids, to fly first class with her own son for her own holiday.

However, the woman's son was left fuming - saying she should be in economy.

She wrote on Reddit: "Matt, on a random day, overheard me talking to my husband that I was planning to pay for a first class seat for May and her son for her to enjoy like we did.

"He asked why we should do this, we were already paying for everything, let her go economy class if she can't afford first class."

The woman said she was "shocked" and that the nanny was an important person who helped the family.

She continued: "He still stood his ground, so I said if he sees it that way, I said I'd buy him an economy seat and he'd have to turn around to pay for an upgrade for him to see how privileged he is to have parents who can pay."

She finished by saying that he thought it was a joke, only for the day to arrive - and he "threw a tantrum in the middle of the airport" when he realised he was in economy.

She said: "The flight was ok, but Matt was outraged the entire trip, saying it was almost torture and that we had gone too far.

"My husband agrees with me, but my parents said I went too far doing this."

Most people were on her side - one person said: "I'm sorry you have such an entitled son. Ask him why 'almost torture' would be fine for the nanny but not for him."

A second agreed: "Good for you for standing your ground. Maybe he'll learn SOMETHING from this and be less of an entitled twit."

However, some said she needed to look at the deeper issues of what caused his tantrums.

One person said: "I don't know why people are saying the son should’ve paid for the upgrade. That’s insanely expensive, especially for a high school kid working an entry-level job."

Another said: "It was unfair to let him fly economy while the rest of you flew first class over a simple question."

Another woman had a similar issue after she upgraded her own plane seat but left her family in economy.
