We were on holiday of a lifetime to Cuba until airline lost our luggage – we didn’t get it back for TWO WEEKS
A DREAM holiday became a nightmare after a couple were left without their luggage for a fortnight.
John and Karen Wildman, from Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, had been looking forward to a trip of a lifetime in Varadero, Cuba, in July.
They forked out £6,000 for the two-week stay at the four star Royalton Hicacos Resort & Spa and their flights to Havana with Air France.
But when they finally touched down in the Caribbean they were left empty handed due to baggage problems plaguing air travel from Edinburgh Airport.
John, 77, said: “What they did to us was inhumane.
“Air France should have never let the flight depart on July 2 when they knew they couldn’t handle the journey.
“It’s unacceptable and criminal, I would have rather had the holiday cancelled than go through this.”
The Cumbernauld couple had packed only a few outfits in their hand luggage but generous locals helped them with sunscreen, phone chargers and a hair bush.
But John, and Karen, 53, struggled to get hold of toiletries due to problems with supplies on the island.
John said he contacted Air France’s customer service to trace their bags but the airline did not provide any temporary solution.

It was just three hours before their flight home when they were reunited with their luggage.
He said: “At the end of this holiday I’m out of pocket and stressed.
“I spent $320 on taxis to go back and forth from the airport to find our bags.
“We didn’t have our mosquito spray among other things and Karen had to see a doctor after being bitten 24 times.
“That was another $60 for the appointment, plus $20 for tablets and an injection.
“Our airline showed no care of duty.”
Air France was contacted for comment.
