EasyJet cancels flights to holiday island for four months

EASYJET has cancelled fights between Manchester and the Isle of Man for four months.

The budget airline has claimed that the cancellations are part of a "number of pre-emptive cancellations for the summer" due to "industry-wide operational issues".

The announcement comes as part of a difficult summer so far for easyJet.

Holiday plans for as many as 1.5million of their customers are set to be cancelled this summer, with the airline reportedly planning to cut 10,000 flights.

They have already cancelled 600 flights this month, including all flights to Hurghada in Egypt.

And with Gatwick reducing their daily flights, 4,000 routes are being affected.

EasyJet flights are expected to resume between Manchester and the Isle of Man by November of this year.

However, passengers needing to make the journey between the two airports this summer can still do so using Scottish airline, Loganair.

In a statement, the airline apologised for the cancellations and said customers were being informed.

They said: "EasyJet is operating up to 1700 flights carrying up to a quarter of a million customers a day.

"There are industry wide operational issues that are impacting airlines at the moment, which means we are making a number of pre-emptive cancellations for the summer.

"This is including flights between the Isle of Man and Manchester between 1 July until the end of October. The route will recommence at the start of November.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.

"We are informing customers directly in advance to minimise the impact on their plans and providing the option to receive a refund or voucher, or rebook for free to a later date, and our customer service hours have been extended to support affected customers.

"EasyJet remains absolutely focused on our daily operation and continues to monitor this very closely."

Cancellations are not the only thing causing problems for easyJet this summer, with strikes set to cause further disruption.

Some Ryanair flights will also be affected by strikes over the upcoming weekend.
