PUB MISERY

Travel chaos hits Wetherspoons as frazzled airport passengers wait for 45 MINUTES for pints at terminal pub

FRAZZLED passengers desperate for an airport pint have complained of queues of up to 45 minutes at a terminal Wetherspoons as holiday misery continues today.

Tired travellers at London Stansted Airport say food and drinks outlets are “packed to the rafters” as departure lounges turned into scenes of “utter chaos.”

The Jubilee bank holiday weekend has already seen thousands of Brits opt to squeeze a vacation abroad - despite the uncertainty surrounding cancelled flights.

And even though would-be holiday-makers have been urged not to arrive at the airport more than three hours early, many have chosen to rush through security in a bid to avoid long queues.

Some have then found themselves with time to kill in the departure lounge.

And today, the scramble reportedly left hordes of passengers waiting for a pre-flight pint as many documented their struggle at getting some grub.

One fuming passenger tweeted: "Security at Stansted was quick but inside the terminal building, I am experiencing complete and utter CHAOS.

“Wetherspoons is at least a 45-minute wait and other outlets and seats are packed to the rafters."

Others reported a similarly chaotic experience, as a second person wrote: "Through Stansted airport security in four minutes - no queues.

“The problem is the queues for all food outlets!"

Another said: "Took longer to get a burger at Stansted than it did to get through security."

A fourth added: "Only issue is the usual Stansted problem with actually being able to cope with waiting people after security. Big queues for food places, lack of seats etc...

“But no issues getting past security. Rather be through and waiting than stuck on the other side though."

Many passengers described how this problem has been ongoing for days with people said to be looking “stressed and disgruntled” at the number of closed and understaffed food outlets.

One traveller added: "Yep. Had that yesterday. They tell everyone to come early so they do, and this is what happens.

“Doesn’t help that a lot of the food units and levels are closed."

Stansted officials told the Sun that they "expected a busy operation" as travellers reported queues as early as 3am.

It came as similar scenarios reportedly played out across the country as some passengers were even forced to wait outside terminals.

Aviation experts say that staff shortages, IT issues, air traffic problems and a surge of travellers post-Covid have caused a "perfect storm" of chaos for holidaymakers.

And travellers across the country have been warned the disruption could get worse - as unions say there'll be problems throughout "the entire summer".

Many have faced long delays and exhausting queues.

Those who do make it to departures they still face a gruelling getaway lottery, with hundreds of flights scrapped.

Ryanair has already issued a travel update for Brits travelling in the next few days, advising to leave three hours before departure to avoid the current travel chaos.

Earlier this week, police were forced to tell exhausted Tui passengers their flight was cancelled after eight-hour delays.

Brits were in tears as two policemen arrived to read a statement from the airline after days of "total carnage" in UK airports.

Tui has also cancelled flights for an astonishing 34,000 passengers.
