And even though would-be holiday-makers have been urged not to arrive at the airport more than three hours early, many have chosen to rush through security in a bid to avoid long queues.
Some have then found themselves with time to kill in the departure lounge.
And today, the scramble reportedly left hordes of passengers waiting for a pre-flight pint as many documented their struggle at getting some grub.

Another said: "Took longer to get a burger at Stansted than it did to get through security."
A fourth added: "Only issue is the usual Stansted problem with actually being able to cope with waiting people after security. Big queues for food places, lack of seats etc...
“But no issues getting past security. Rather be through and waiting than stuck on the other side though."
Many passengers described how this problem has been ongoing for days with people said to be looking “stressed and disgruntled” at the number of closed and understaffed food outlets.
One traveller added: "Yep. Had that yesterday. They tell everyone to come early so they do, and this is what happens.
“Doesn’t help that a lot of the food units and levels are closed."
