Ibiza & Majorca holiday fears due to major hotel closures
BRITS may struggle to find a Spanish holiday this year, as popular holiday resorts are closing thousands of hotel rooms.
Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera will all be affected following the announcement.
According to the , the islands in the Balearics want to attract "fewer but better" tourists, resulting in the plans put forward by the government.
If it goes ahead, holiday accommodation capacity will be reduced by as much as 100,000.
The Balearic president Francina Armengol said the reductions would take place within four years.
She added that they had to "make the decision" while ensuring "balance" on the islands.

That's not the only problem which could affect a Spanish holiday for Brits.
The tourist industry on the Balearic Islands is struggling to hire enough staff ahead of the summer, du to reasons including high rent and low wages.
According to , some staff are being forced to live in their cars, with desperate hotels using some of their rooms to rent out to workers.
Some hotels on the islands might not be able to reopen during the busy summer season due to a shortage of supplies which will affect hotel pools.

Many hotel pools cannot be used until current equipment is replaced, but the waiting time is six months.
New tourism laws planned for the Balearic Islands could even mean the end of beach clubs across the islands, particularly in Ibiza.
But the biggest change for tourists this year is the new rules in place in Ibiza and Majorca that cap the amount of alcohol Brits can drink, even if they have paid for an all-inclusive package.

Only six alcoholic drinks can be enjoyed, with three at lunch and another three at dinner.
