Spain holiday warning as strict Covid travel rules are extended for Brits

BRITS yet to be vaccinated but hoping to visit Spain have been dealt another blow after the country extended its strict entry rules.

Spain is yet to open to UK holidaymakers who have not had all of their jabs.

While it was hoped that this would be ditched in time for the May holidays, the government has extended the Covid requirement until at least May 15, where it will be re-evaluated again.

There is some hope however, with the rules only being extended for the next two weeks, rather than the usual month.

This means it could be lifted in time for the summer holidays in just a few weeks.

The blow comes just weeks after the Spanish tourist board was forced to backtrack after claiming unvaxxed Brits would be able to return to the holiday destinations.

Currently, only those aged between 12 and 17 who are unvaccinated can enter the country with just a Covid test.

The UK government website states: "Under the Spanish government’s current measures, you can only enter Spain from the UK for tourism purposes if you can show valid proof of meeting the vaccination requirements set out above or a medical certificate certifying that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months prior to travel.

Spain is one of several European countries that has put an expiration date on vaccine certificates.

You must be able to prove you were fully vaccinated against Covid within the last 270 days to be considered vaccinated - anything over that requires a booster jab.

And all arrivals must fill in an online  to enter Spain.

Brits heading to some of Spain's party hotspots have also been warned they face fines up to £25,000 if caught attending illegal raves.

It follows a huge crackdown on boozy Brits which now means holidaymakers in Ibiza and Majorca are restricted to just six alcoholic drinks a day in their all-inclusive packages.

Balearic Government chiefs say they want to improve the image of the party resorts which have a reputation for boozy and bad behaviour.

The block has been put on boozy pub crawls, the sale of alcohol in shops between 9.30pm and 8am and advertising party boats in some areas.

Brit Jason Walker was left fuming after he had to shell out more for his £240 all-inclusive Spain holiday due to the current drinks restrictions.

There is better news elsewhere - Greece has scrapped all of their entry restrictions, meaning unvaxxed BRits can now visit the country with no tests.

Other countries such as Bulgaria and Italy are also removing many of their strict Covid rules while Portugal has scrapped their face mask restrictions.
