Greece holiday confusion as Covid rules WON’T be scrapped this week

GREECE has appeared to backtrack on the easing of their Covid rules, in a blow to Brit holidaymakers.

Following a statement by the health minister Thanos Plevris earlier this month, it was suggested that all Covid entry rules would be scrapped from May 1.

He said on April 12 that Covid cases in Greece have fallen, meaning they would "proceed with the suspension of the protection measures put in place from May 1."

Also hoping to be scrapped this week would be the requirement to show a vaccination certificate to enter bars and restaurants.

This would then be followed by the end of indoor face masks from June 1.

However, sources have since said that the scrapping of Covid entry rules WON'T happen this weekend.

Instead, only the vaccine certificates for bars and restaurants will be scrapped, so Brits will still need to show evidence of vaccination to enter the country, or a negative Covid test.

A source told the that there had been a "misunderstanding," adding: “As of May 1, no proof of vaccination or recovery will be required to enter any indoor and outdoor venues.

“Based on the information that we currently have, it will still be required to show vaccination or recovery certificate to enter the country.”

Sun Online Travel has contacted the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) for clarification.

Greece has already scrapped passenger locator forms, making holidays that bit easier.

However, the blow is likely to affect thousands of Brits who were hoping to travel to Greece over the May bank holiday weekend tomorrow.

Lots of confused holidaymakers have taken to social media hoping for answers.

One person wrote: "Can you confirm if Greece are changing its travel entry requirements on May the 1st for British people traveling to Greece? It's all a bit confusing."

Another asked Jet2: "Hello, please can you confirm that the entry requirements for Greece will be changing on the 1st or 2nd of May for people who aren't fully vaccinated? Or need proof of tests?"

Other European countries have been relaxing their Covid rules in recent months.
