Travel experts reveal clever trick which gets you a row to yourself during a flight
TRAVEL experts have revealed how to get a row all to yourself during a flight - with a number of different methods.
One expert says that booking the aisle and window seat - leaving the middle seat empty - is one of the best ways to do it.
The trick is to book a seat in the aisle and in the window of a three-seat row - leaving the middle seat empty.
Passengers are unlikely to book the middle seat, being the worst seat, or are likely to be flying with others, meaning you will have that one empty for the whole flight.
Travel blogger Gilbert Ott explained on website that you can even use an app called Expert Flyer to track which seats are empty on the plane.
He explained: "A smart flyer sees the cabin as a game of musical chairs. If the best seat in the house is available immediately- book it.
"If not, get the next best available seat- and set free alerts on ExpertFlyer for any and all the seats you’d prefer. By doing so, you can keep improving up until final boarding."
"Once everyone else has settled their fate, you can often stand in the boarding line with your app open seeing if final seating assignments have created any opportunities- like an entire row to yourself.
"It really does happen."
During Covid, many airlines even left the middle seat empty on purpose to allow social distancing, although those rules have since been lifted.
One person said another way to get a whole row for free, although with more risk, is to book seats in row 13, as some superstitious passengers are likely to avoid it.
However, many airlines don't even have a row 13 due to this - including Ryanair.
Here are some other ways to get a free row to yourself as well.

If you pay a bit extra, a number of airlines such as Lufthansa and Thomas Cook have launched beds in economy.
