Warning to easyJet passengers as man gets caught out with £24 charge due to luggage rule change

EASYJET passengers are being warned to check their luggage, after one man was caught out - due to his wheels being too big.

Liam Allinson, from Edinburgh, was forced to fork out another £24 after staff told him his two inch wheels meant his suitcase was too large to be taken into the cabin.

Despite having travelled with the same suitcase with easyJet before, Liam was told he would have to pay to put the bag in the hold for the one hour flight from Edinburgh Airport to London Stansted .

He told : "I have a cabin bag with wheels that no longer fits their new system.

"My case actually fit in the space, although my wheels wouldn’t with them now measuring it sideways.

"So I was charged an additional £24 to load it into the hold, even though it was a two-inch wheel that wouldn’t fit their system."

He added it wasn't the fault of the staff who were "visibly unhappy" about forcing him to pay extra, but that it was the fault of the company.

The new rules mean cabin bags must be no bigger than 45cm x 36cm x 20cm, which includes the handle and the wheels.

Previously, passengers could bring a bag up measuring 56cm x 45cm x 25cm to put in the overhead lockers.

EasyJet acknowledged that passengers who could previously bring cabin bags onboard, may not be able to anymore and unless booking an extra legroom seat, passengers can only bring on a bag which fits under the seat.

EasyJet said: “We clearly advise all customers of their cabin bag allowance including dimensions during booking, in their booking confirmation, when checking in online or via the app and in pre-travel information sent 48 hours before departure and we remind customers to ensure they check this before they travel to avoid any charges.”
