The company will now undertake a number of  site surveys and pre-planning works ahead of submitting a planning application for the project.

The location has been chosen for its proximity to south London and good transport links.

Center Parcs’ CEO, Martin Dalby, said: “It is really exciting to have identified a potential site for another Center Parcs village in the UK.

“Today’s announcement marks the first step of a long journey and there is still a huge amount of work to be done before we can submit a planning application.”

The last Center Parcs to open in the UK was at Woburn Forest in Bedfordshire.

Set in 362 acres of forest, the village features Center Parcs’ largest trademark Subtropical Swimming Paradise as well as 625 lodges, a 75-bedroom hotel and a host of restaurants, shops and more than 100 leisure activities.

New features exclusive to Woburn Forest included ‘upside down’ lodges with panoramic views from first floor living rooms, and The Shearing House – a new restaurant with terrace featuring forest views.

Meanwhile, last year Center Parcs' Whinfell Forest resort launched their new luxury treehouses.

The treehouses have en-suite bedrooms, with a detached games den for the kids to play in as well as an outdoor hot tub and sauna.

Whinfell Forest was the latest Center Parcs resort to launch the treehouses, following in the footsteps of Sherwood Forest, Longleat Forest, Elveden Forest, and Woburn Forest.
