The disgusting reason flight attendants hang coffee filter bags up on planes
FORMER flight attendants and pilots have revealed some of the best kept secrets of the industry - and some are pretty gross.
One former airline employee revealed why they sometimes hang coffee filter bags in the cabin, for a rather disgusting reason.
Revealed on , they explained that you are likely to see it if there is someone particularly smelly on board.
If the cabin is also hotter than usual, that could also be a sign.
They wrote: "Ex-airline employee here. We'd often have someone on board with terrible body odour.
"You can set a hotter temperature on one end of the cabin so it localizes the smell to one part of the plane.
"If you see coffee filter bags hanging anywhere, it's because someone smells horrible somewhere on the plane."
While a slightly odd way to prevent bad smells in the cabin, coffee grounds are known for neutralizing bad smells.
And with crew unable to open a window mid-flight, it is one of the few ways to stop the rest of the passengers having to put with someone with body odour.
Other confessions on Reddit include pilots falling asleep in the cockpit to the secret signs that a flight attendant fancies you - and one includes saying "hot coffee".
