BRITS who live near popular holiday areas could earn some extra cash this summer by renting out their driveways to tourists wanting to visit.

From April 12, holidays can go ahead in England at self-catered properties, with Wales restarting from this weekend.

From May 17, hotels can open and group holidays can go ahead, while it is hoped that all restrictions in the UK will be lifted by June.

Holiday destinations such as Cornwall have warned that many areas are already sold out, with some families being put on waiting lists.

Some popular resorts such as St Ives and Falmouth even banned cars from parking last summer to allow more space for tourists due to overcrowding.

For example, a parking spot in St Ives can sell for as much as £350 per month, with other spots around Cornwall costing more than £100.

Brighton parking spaces are also for rent for as much as £350 - more than parking spaces in London.

Other seaside locations such as Margate and Bournemouth have parking spots for £125 a month which are a short walk away from the beach.

Harrison Woods, managing director at : "Our latest research clearly indicates that, even if given the freedom to travel abroad, millions of Brits would now prefer to holiday much closer to home.

“This presents a great opportunity to homeowners with an empty driveway or off-street private space near a tourist hotspot to rent it out to holidaymakers and day trippers looking for somewhere to park which they can pre-book online, guaranteeing them availability when they arrive.”

This means families at popular spots could earn as much as £525 during the peak six week summer holidays if they rented their driveways.

You could earn as much as £2,300 a year, according to some families who do it all year round.
