Staycation boom in Wales as holidaymakers book trips to Tenby and Llandudno after lockdown

WALES is experiencing a holiday booking boom after the 17-day firebreak lockdown ended yesterday.

The country, while still enforcing some restrictions, is now allowing people to meet up in small groups, as well as domestic holidays to go ahead.

Travel agencies are also seeing bookings - Matthew Sutton, who owns two domestic travel agencies in Wales, said they had seen strong footfall in the shops already.

He said: “It’s lovely to be back open and to see customers coming in who are happy to make bookings.

"We were hoping it would be this busy but we didn’t expect it."

Bookings for Tenby and Llandudno were popular options, he said, as families looked to book their own staycations, with some departing as soon as November 20.

Sadly anyone in England is still unable to go on holiday - the lockdown outside of Wales is ongoing until December 2.

Entering Wales from England is also not allowed, due to the lockdown.

Staycations have seen a bumper year in 2020 due to the continued travel bans and restrictions.

Many campsites and holiday parks sold out this summer, with some having a record-breaking year.

This is already continuing for next year - travel experts have even warned families to book now or risk losing out.

Not only are prices expected to go up in price, but there is likely to be limited availability due to advance bookings as well as families who have opted to move their 2020 holiday dates to 2021.

Sam Smith Travel owner Suzanne Cumpston said: ";We have got to the stage where people are really quite fed up and desperately need something to look forward to, therefore we’re taking a fair amount of bookings for advance seasons.

"Operators with 2022 on sale are getting the benefits."

TUI has launched their summer 2022 schedule, two years ahead.
