New £100m Peak District resort with huge indoor activity centre and 850 hotel rooms to open next year
A £100m new adventure resort is to open next year with indoor and outdoor activities, wellness centre as well as chalets and hotels.
PEAK, located in Derbyshire, hopes to open phase one of the new park which is being built on the 300-acre Birchall Estate in Chesterfield.
Phase one will include the new indoor adventure park Adrenaline World.
Located inside will be activities including zip lines, climbing walls, adventure golf, ninja courses, caving, trampolining, gold and even go karting.
The indoor park will be part of the health and leisure chain David Lloyd.
Also in phase one will be an outdoor activity lake and amphitheatre, as well as cycle trails and accommodation.
A 150-room hotel and a 312-room hostel will be part of the first opening phase, although the development has permission for up to 2,000 rooms.
While overnight stays are available to guests, PEAK differs from other resorts in that people will be able to visit for the day as well.
Phase two, which will launch in 2022, will include a huge health and wellness centre, as well as an 120-room apart-hotel and 50 additional lodges.
The new development also hopes to be a "gateway" to the Peak District National Park which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year.
According to the website: "PEAK is a gateway place for day and stay visitors.
"It will provide a serviced base from which to visit the National Park and the local area.
"PEAK will offer tailored transport, equipment and guides for the pursuit of varied interests and experiences. "
"Overnight and short stay accommodation will be available in hotel, hostel and lodge formats.
"PEAK will also provide all-weather indoor and outdoor leisure, entertainment, health, business and education facilities available to locals and visitors alike."
Melanie Taylor, head of retail relations at Milligan working on the development, said; “Our vision is to create a sustainable hub for like-minded businesses and a basecamp for the sustainable exploration of the UK’s first national park.
"As post-lockdown demand for outdoor pursuits grows, we must enable and facilitate the sustainable use of natural spaces and protect them for generations to come."
