FAMILIES wanting a holiday in the UK this year have been left overjoyed by the news that hotels and campsites will be reopening from July 4.
Booking websites have reported huge spikes in bookings across England since the announcement earlier this week.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday: "From July 4, people will be free to stay overnight in contained accommodation, including hotels, B&Bs, including campsites, as long as shared facilities are kept clean."
This includes one other household, meaning two households will be able to go on holiday together.
Hoseasons, who specialise in luxury lodges, said they were taking bookings every 11 seconds just hours after the announcement, .
Simon Altham, chief commercial officer of Awaze UK who owns Hoseasons, said they were expecting to see some interest but didn't expect the "record day".
He added that July and August bookings were most popular, but many are also looking for October and September.
Other tour operators and holiday camps reported similar soaring numbers.
Cool Camping's founder Jonathon Knight said bookings were up 750 per cent compared to last year, with tourist destinations Cornwall and Devon high on the list.
He added: "We can see a lot of bookings in destinations you would expect like Devon, Cornwall and The Lakes but it is also encouraging to see people are booking some of those lesser explored rural idles like Herefordshire, Shropshire, Yorkshire and Wiltshire."
Some current camping pitch bargains you can book for next month include:
- Two nights in Rutland on July 4 -
- Seven nights near Bodmin in Cornwall on July 18 -
- Seven nights near Cheddar in Somerset on July 18 -
- Seven nights near Norwich in Norfolk on July 18 -
Families are already bragging about their next holiday plans.
One person tweeted: "So within minutes of Boris' announcement I've bought a massive tent and booked a camping holiday for the middle of July."
Another person added: "Booked our first week away holiday in August...camping, but will be nice to get away."
