Are domestic flights cancelled due to coronavirus? Latest as PM advises against all but essential travel within UK

THE Prime Minister has warned against all but essential travel within the UK as well as abroad because of the coronavirus pandemic, to reduce the spread of the virus.

As people are told to stay indoors, and the majority of flights overseas to Europe, Asia and US have now been cancelled, have British domestic flights been affected?

Airlines such as British Airways and easyJet currently offer flights between UK airports, along with regional airlines including Logan Air and Eastern Airlines.

Smaller airlines such as Aurigny Air Services and Blue Islands connect the mainland to the islands, such as Jersey and Guernsey

Airline Flybe once operated more than half of their routes within the country, although the airline went bust earlier this year.

EasyJet

EasyJet's domestic flights run between London Luton and airports in Scotland - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

They also offer flights to Jersey from a number of airports throughout the year.

All flights have been cancelled today, after it was announced last week that the majority of the fleet would be grounded from March 24 until further notice.

British Airways

The flag carrier operates a number of routes within the UK, such as between London Airports to the Midlands as well as Scotland and Jersey.

Some flights to Edinburgh and Glasgow have been cancelled while all flights to Jersey have been suspended.

A number of flights are currently still operating, although this is likely to change at the last minute.

A spokesperson for the airline advised passengers to keep track on their website as the situation is fast-moving.

Eastern Airlines

Connecting the mainland airports, Eastern Airlines operates routes such as Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds to Southampton and Birmingham to Aberdeen.

The majority of flights appear to be cancelled today, and have explained that they are suspending the majority of their scheduled network until currently April 17.

Eastern Airlines is directing passengers to their website, with the remaining route between Humberside and Aberdeen altered, which you can check .
