Jet2 baggage rules: What size hand luggage can I take and what is the checked baggage allowance?
BRITISH airline Jet2 is one of the most popular budget airlines in the UK, with destinations as close as Paris to as far as Gran Canaria and Cyprus.
In order to have a smooth flight, it's important to understand Jet2's hand luggage and hold baggage requirements.
What size hand luggage can I take on a Jet2 flight?
All Jet2 passengers can take a suitcase into the cabin for free as long as it measures 56cm x 45cm x 25cm or less and weighs less than 10kg. This includes any wheels or handles.
If your hand luggage exceeds this amount, you will need to check the luggage into the hold and potentially face a fine.
You may also bring a small personal item on board.
Anything from a handbag, laptop bag or Duty-Free bag is included in this. It must fit underneath the seat in front of you.
The airline claims the right to check any hand luggage into the hold for operational or capacity reasons.
What can you bring on a Jet2 flight?
Like many airlines, any liquids, aerosols and gels you bring must be 100ml or less.
You can purchase and bring larger quantities of liquids, like a bottle of water, in the terminal, once you pass security.
Passengers are advised to carry valuable items such as travel documents, money, keys and medication in their hand luggage rather than place them in the hold.
The same goes for cigarettes and tobacco.
Any weapons or stunning devices, including objects with a sharp point or sharp edge, workmen's tools or blunt instruments, are not allowed onboard. These include but are not limited to:
- Items designed for chopping, such as axes, hatchets and cleavers
- Ice axes and ice picks
- Razor blades
- Box cutters
- Knives with blades of more than 6 cm
- Scissors with blades of more than 6 cm as measured from the fulcrum
- Martial arts equipment with a sharp point or sharp edge
- Swords and sabres
- Crowbars
- Drills and drill bits, including cordless portable power drills
- Tools with a blade or a shaft of more than 6cm capable of use as a weapon, such as screwdrivers and chisels
- Saws, including cordless portable power saws
- Blowtorches
- Bolt guns and nail guns
- Baseball and softball bats
- Clubs and batons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks
- Martial arts equipment
What is Jet2's checked baggage allowance?
All travellers are allowed to purchase up to three checked bags weighing 22kg each per flight. No specific measurements are given.
Be careful not to go over the weight limit, as it will cost you another £12 per kg, with the maximum weight allowed up to 32kg altogether.
Passengers with infants automatically get an increase of 10kg to their allowance at no additional cost.
Jet2 recommends labelling your baggage with your name, flight number and phone number.
How much does it cost to check a bag with Jet2?
The price per bag will depend on the destination you are travelling to and also where you make the booking.
To check a suitcase into the hold, you will need to pay a fee depending on how big the bag is.
Prices range between £8 and £45 depending on the route, as well as when it is booked, such as while booking flights or at the airport.
Additional items such as bikes, musical instruments or ski equipment cost £30 each way.
If you turn up at the airport on the day of the departure with an additional checked bag, you will need to pay £45 plus any excess baggage fees.
