A SAVVY mum spent 24 hours converting an outdated caravan for just £230, with plans to travel around Australia in it.
Shannon Lott, 32, purchased the caravan for £2,490 last July to use as a holiday home with her two kids.
She praised retailer Kmart for her extensive makeover – where she purchased ‘ridiculously cheap’ decor and 11 vinyl wrap rolls costing £18.15 to ‘spruce up’ the dated 1987 caravan.
The stay-at-home mum is currently living in the mobile home with her children Teva, 14 and Isla, three and they couldn’t be happier.
Shannon from Melbourne, said: "I spent eight hours a day for three days in July transforming the caravan into a liveable and modern space.
"I am impressed with how good the vinyl wrap paper looks – even after six months, it hasn’t moved.
"I used six rolls for the floor, three for the kitchen backsplash, one for the chalkboard and another for the table.
"As it was only £1.50 per roll so I assumed I would need to renovate it again, but I think it is going to be fine.
"I got rid of the bed and purchased a sofa bed from Ikea which I found on Facebook marketplace for £57 and the seating area also pulls out into a bed.
"The caravan was all brown and boring, so I revamped it with white paint which was £23 for two pots from Bunnings along with gold spray paint for £7."
Shannon spent a total of £230 in Kmart, Target, Bunnings, a hardware shop in Australia, and Marketplace on Facebook.
She also used other items from her home which were previously purchased from Kmart such as cushions and woven baskets.
Her latest Kmart haul cost £73 for items such as woven fruit bowl for £4.60, a fluffy cushion for £6.20 and a fringe ottoman for £15.
She said: "I initially purchased the van for holidays to save on hotel and food expenses, but we now live in it whilst waiting for our new house to be ready.
"The only downside to the caravan is there isn’t any bathroom facilities so we have to stay on a caravan site.
"My teenage son probably wants his own space at times, but he never says no to a movie night.
"It has brought us together, not just in proximity but as a family.
