Kennedy Space Center is launching astronauts into space again – and your kids will love their new play area

VISITORS to Kennedy Space Center in Florida will be able to see astronauts being launched into space again after almost nine years.

And for those bringing kids, they will love the new play area for the little ones.

Nasa's "Commercial Crew Program" will be launching astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) from the Florida attraction later this year.

There will be launches with Elon Musk's SpaceX and Boeing's Starliner - both have already successfully completed test flights last year.

While visitors can't get up close to the actual rocket launches, they will be able to see it from the - the closest spot that's open to the public.

The crewed test flight is expected to take place later this year, although the exact date hasn't been confirmed yet.

If you can't wait, there are and the dates are already scheduled in.

There are plenty of new attractions for other space fans as well, including for kids.

The attraction is opening a new Planet Play area towards the end of the year, which will be a "fully-immersive multiple storey play experience" designed for kids.

There, your little ones can learn about the planets and the solar system while they explore the playground.

There will be interactive games and you kids can map a constellation, climb a wormhole and walk on the Sun and the Moon.

They can even slide through an asteroid field at the attraction.

This bit of the attraction is just for kids, but you will be able to watch them play and learn from the new cafe area.

Kennedy Space Center has also introduced a new exhibit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 last year.

As part of the new interactive exhibit, guests can explore the history of the Apollo programme and even see the Saturn V Moon rocket up close - it's one of only three left in the world.

Kennedy Space Center is around 45 minutes drive from Orlando, and rickets currently cost $57 (£43.23) plus tax for adults and $47 (£35.64) plus tax for children ages 3 – 11.
