Cheapest destinations to fly to in January including Barcelona, Madeira and Riga
JANUARY is the cheapest month to fly for many destinations and choosing the right one can save you hundreds of pounds compared to travelling at other times of the year.
This year, Barcelona, Madeira and Nice offer some of the best savings, with flights just a few hours from the UK.
Tom Church, co-founder for , analysed the cheapest and most expensive months for flights to find out where you should go this month for the biggest savings.
For example, flights to Barcelona from London cost just £54 return on average this month, yet jumps in price to £143 in August.
Similarly, Nice costs £58 in January compared to £161 in August.
Madeira in Portugal is hundreds of pounds cheaper if you change your travel dates by a month - costing £90 in January and £342 in December.
Bari and Riga are also much cheaper in January than any other month, with return flights for under £60 compared to £210 and £161, respectively.
The biggest bargain was to Hyderabad in India, with prices leaping from £438 in January to £788 when travelling in December.
Tom, 29, explained that his New Year resolution to travel more inspired the comparisons.
He said: "I created a list of countries to visit but immediately hit a snag: the flights were so expensive.
"I lost the will to save and another year of unfulfilled travel dreams went by. This happened for years until I flipped my thinking: Where can I go right now with the money I have?"
Tom also added how you can find the cheapest destinations for the month you want to travel.
