Why you should NEVER sit in the hotel room chair while on holiday

THINK twice before you flop into your hotel room chair after a long flight, experts have warned.

The chairs are likely to be hiding some very grim things, as they are hard to clean properly unlike bedding and towels which are washed at a high heat.

Experts have explained that this means they are likely to hold a range of germs that can make you sick.

With cleaning staff also being short on time when cleaning an entire room between guests, the comfortable chair often gets overlooked.

Dr. Nidhi Ghildayal, PhD, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, : "Often, stains on chairs are dabbed and rubbed until they are removed, but other germs that are not noticeable to the eye remain."

Chairs are a "high traffic" area, he added, meaning guests will often sit on them, put their luggage on it or throw dirty clothes and shoes on them, leading to the range of bacteria hidden within.

To avoid falling sick, putting down a towel first can avoid any direct contact with it.

Smelling the chair could also reveal if it is mouldy, from a musty smell.

Make sure to wear the free hotel slippers too - as the carpet is rarely cleaned either, so it is just as dirty.

And a hotel cleaner recently revealed the five items they never clean in the rooms.

shared a video on Tiktok of her at work for her job as a cleaner in a hotel room - with the five items being the coffee machine, mattress topper, comforter, throw and pillows.

Here is how to tell if your hotel room has been cleaned properly.
