Gran in tears after being ‘forced to pay £1,000 to take one extra suitcase’ on £800 Qatar Airways flight from Gatwick
A GRAN says she was left in tears after she had to fork out £1,000 to take an extra suitcase on a Qatar Airways flight.
Olga Fonseca, 57, was forced to borrow the money from her brother after she had forked out £800 for her return ticket from Gatwick to Mozambique with Qatar Airways.
The hospital cleaning boss was travelling with her niece and granddaughter from Gatwick with all three flights costing a total of £2,400.
As well as the three 30kg bags allowed she had also packed three more with gifts and “essentials” for her family and expected to pay around £100 extra for each bag.
But Olga claims she was told at check-in that the total for all three bags would be more than £3,000.
Olga had to “condense” the contents of the three bags into just one, leaving her brother to take the rest back home.
She also had to borrow the money from her brother to pay the extra £1,000 charge.
Olga, from South London, told the : "I had nothing left to enjoy my holiday with. I was in tears on the plane.”
Her daughter Nadia Ossmane, 31, said: “She’s regularly taken supplies and clothes for siblings home on other flights. It’s never more than £100.”

Olga claims she was told by the airline that the charges were higher because she had used a travel agent to book her tickets.
Nadia said: “My mum paid a lot for those tickets and they tried to bleed her dry and left her completely humiliated.”
Qatar Airways said they were reviewing the case and Olga would receive an update shortly.
