Furious passenger slams American Airlines after cabin crew ‘ignored her in first class because she’s black’
AN AMERICAN Airlines passenger has slammed the airline after claiming she was "ignored in first class for being black".
Rochelle Graham-Campbell, 32, was travelling to Mexico when she claimed she wasn't served any food or drink by crew during the flight.
She explained in a video, uploaded to , that she paid for first class flights as it was her birthday and she wanted to be "treated like a queen".
However, after getting on an early flight at 7am, she then claimed the two flight attendants in first class ignored her for an hour and a half.
Rochelle said: "I had been up since 4:30am for my flight [and] felt nauseous as I hadn't eaten."
After boarding, she closed her eyes during take off as she was feeling sick, before waiting to be served by flight crew when the plane was in the air.
However, she explained: "They served everyone drinks. No one ever spoke to me or offered me anything.
"I figured they would be coming around as they had even served the guy sitting next to me."
However, she then said after drinks were given to travellers, they started food service.
She continued: "They came back around and served people fruit and cheese trays.
"They made no eye contact with me."
The 32-year-old said she made eye contact with them when they were at the back, but they continued to ignore her and not come over.
Rochelle then explained that they took everyone's plates before dropping off the hot food option.
She said again: "They served everyone except me."
After eventually pressing the overhead call button, the cabin crew came over - only to ask the man sitting next to her if he needed help.
She finally said to them that she wanted their names as she would be filing a complaint.
Rochelle explained: "I talked to my mom and my husband when I got off the flight as I was upset and disappointed after looking forward to my birthday trip for so long.
"I didn't want it to ruin my birthday [but] I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had this type of experience.
"This type of thing that needs to stop.
"It is something people of colour, black people experience.
"It doesn't matter how professional or courteous we are - we will never be respected in certain spaces."
Many YouTube users agreed that she had been treated badly during the first class flight.
Diane Parker wrote: "Ignoring customers whether they’re flying first class or not should not be tolerated."
Felicite Jasmin also said: "Thank you for being brave enough to share your experience."
Others claimed she should have done more to be noticed.
Erica Garza asked: "Why would you let them pass you by for that long and not say anything?"
Zoe Jeneth added: "Why didn't you speak up? why come on here after the fact to complain?"
An American Airlines spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: "We have reached out to Mrs. Graham-Campbell directly to let her know that we take her concerns very seriously and are conducting an investigation of her experience."
Last month, a black passenger claimed he was suing the airline after he was "kicked off a flight so a dog could sit in first class".
Another passenger claimed he experienced "blatant racism" after being told to get out of the business class queue while waiting to board.
