Furlough scheme

Furlough scheme

The furlough scheme supports firms in the UK by temporarily helping to pay the wages of their employees who can’t do their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic. The scheme – backdated to 1 March – opened to applications on April 20, 2020. It allows workers to stay on the payroll, even though they aren’t working. The company can choose to top up this pay if they want and must let their employees know they have been furloughed.
