Elon Musk, Nasa and Tom Cruise ‘in talks to shoot first movie in SPACE’ using billionaire’s rockets
TOM Cruise is reportedly in talks to star in the first ever Hollywood blockbuster filmed in space.
The alleged movie will apparently involve rockets built by SpaceX, the California-based space exploration company owned by kooky billionaire Elon Musk.
If it goes ahead, the production would be the first action adventure movie to be filmed in or beyond orbit.
The wacky pan is still in its early stages, with no studio said to be involved in the title, .
Reporter Mike Jenning Jr added that Nasa is also involved, citing sources with knowledge of the project.
"I’m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with Nasa that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space," Jenning wrote.
"It’s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff."
Cruise is known for his daredevil stunts while shooting flicks - most notably during filming for the Mission Impossible franchise.
The 57-year-old broke his ankle while leaping from one rooftop to another while filming Mission Impossible: Fallout.
Cruise also hung from the side of a jet during takeoff in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, while in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol he scaled some 123 floors of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai.
Musk, who is CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX, is no stranger to the world of Hollywood.
He's appeared in multiple TV shows and films - including the Big Bang Theory and Iron Man 2 - largely appearing as himself.
And his company SpaceX has previously announced projects with the world's richest folk - the rocket firm has pledged to carry Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa to the Moon and back in 2023.
