iPhone fans are mocking Google’s new phone over THIS controversial feature
The internet is alive with people making fun of the Pixel 3 XL's notch and its lower bezel
IPHONE fans are mocking the new Google Pixel 3 XL and its notch, which imitates a similar feature found on the iPhone X.
They think it's much bigger and uglier than the iPhone X's, and so they've taken to Reddit to mercilessly make fun of it.
The Pixel 3 XL was launched by Google on Tuesday, but not everyone was impressed by its new design.
"There are a lot of features, mostly camera related, that I'm really impressed by on the Pixel," one poster on the Apple sub-Reddit. "But, damn, that notch on the XL is ugly."
The "notch" in question is a small nub that sits at the top of the Pixel 3 XL's screen and that houses the phone's selfie-cameras and a speaker.
But compared to the iPhone XS's version, the Pixel 3 XL's notch is noticeably larger, so other posters on Reddit were quick to add to the original poster's criticisms.
And once again, they had issues with the notch and also the larger bottom bezel.
"If you’re going to have a notch, the idea is that it’s supposed to be a near-bezel-less display," said one poster. "If you then go and include a chin... it defeats the purpose of the notch. To me this is the greatest proof they will just do whatever Apple does."
Ever since the original iPhone X was unveiled by Apple in September 2017, the 'notch' has been a much-copied and much-ridiculed feature.
In March, Sony Mobile's Kaz Tajima told the Sun that the new Xperia XZ2 smartphone didn't have its own notch because Sony didn't want to ruin the user experience.
"Notching the display always affects the user interface," he said. "We try to keep a square user interface as much as possible."
Aside from the Google Pixel 3 XL, the LG G7 has a notch, and so does the Essential Phone PH-1, the Xiaomi Mi 8, the OnePlus 6, the Huawei P20, and the Asus ZenFone 5.
