Microsoft’s Xbox One X is a few months away – but will it be worth the wait?

With more power than ever before, the supercharged Xbox promises better graphics, faster load times and an all-round superior experience to the standard Xbox One.

Here’s why you should seriously consider upgrading to Microsoft’s new console.

FIFA 18 and PES 2018 in true 4K

The X may look similar to the standard Xbox One S, but that’s all it has in common. Under the bonnet is a completely different beast altogether.

It’s powered by a six teraflop graphics processor running at 1172 Mhz, has 12GB of GDDR5 memory and a 2.3 Ghz custom central processing unit.

This makes it significantly more powerful than the Xbox One S and, crucially, Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro, which boasts a 4.2 teraflop graphics processing unit and a 911 Mhz CPU.

The result is that the X can run games at native 4K resolution along with HDR and Dolby Atmos surround sound.

, released on September 29, will be one of the first games to see a bump in performance.

The same goes for , with Fox Engine capable of scaling up in line with more powerful hardware.

Perfect timing

Not that football games are the only reason to get excited about the X.

The console hits shelves on November 7, which puts it right at the epicentre of a plethora of game launches.

Need for Speed: Payback, Star Wars Battlefront II, Assassins Creed Origins, Crackdown – all games will look great on the X.

The kicker? The X will set you back around £450 – and that will probably not include a game.

PS4 Pro will likely see its price slashed as it looks to take on the X in the run up to Christmas, which is further good news for gamers.

Small but mighty 

The X is much better looking than the chunky PS4 Pro – and is far less invasive.

The PS4 Pro’s dimensions are 12.8 x 11.6 x 2.1 inches and the X’s dimensions are 11.8 x 9.4 x 2.4 inches.

When looking at how much space they occupy, the Pro takes 311.808 inch3 and the X only occupies 266.208 inch3       

True Blu

One of the most damaging omissions from the PS4 Pro is a 4K Blu-ray player – especially given how many people use consoles as an entertainment hub.
Thankfully, the X includes a 4K Blu-ray drive. Plus, it’ll be backwards compatible with original Xbox and Xbox 360 games.
Sounds like a winner to us.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is another title that will make the most out of the X’s improved power

AMD Freesync

AMD FreeSync makes gameplay smoother by delivering dynamic refresh rates.

It works by synchronising the refresh rate of a compatible display to the frame rate of the GPU to cut input lag and juddering during gameplay.
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Origins arrives on October 27 – so it may be worth waiting until the X comes out to pick it up

This feature was totally bypassed by the PS4 Pro, so the X will be the only console around offering it.
