FIFA fans’ hopes are high as new football series could be right around the corner
FIFA and EA Sports had a very public divorce a few years ago as the football federation and game developer parted ways.
EA Sports jumped straight back in the game releasing its rebranded series of sports games last year.
EA Sports FC 24 continues the series of football games developed by EA, previously known as FIFA, but without the FIFA licensing.
For its part, FIFA said that it would work with another developer to develop and release a football gaming series using the FIFA name.
Nothing was released in 2023, though that year FIFA president Gianni Infantino said “We will have news on this very soon.”
However, his statement included another hint that seemed to confirm FIFA’s initial plans to start its new FIFA series in 2024.

Infantino said: “The new FIFA game - the FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on - will always be the best egame for any girl or boy. We will have news on this very soon.”
Despite his statement, there has been no news on a new FIFA series, and it appears the federation has been keeping its cards close to its chest.
The most likely developer to take on the series is 2K, a company known for its variety of sports games.
There has been more fuel to the fire, with rumours that 2K and FIFA have since come to a licensing agreement.

This has not been confirmed, but the rumours do coincide with another incident.
In November, a store page for a new football game Lego 2K Goal appeared on the PlayStation Store before it was taken down.
Early releases like this happen on occasion, with the official announcement coming a few weeks later.
However, Lego 2K Goal never reappeared on the store, suggesting that changes were made in development.
If 2K obtained the FIFA licence around this time, it would make sense that the game announcement was delayed to add FIFA licensing.
This is still all rumoured, but a number of things are lining up that suggest a FIFA 25 could be released later this year.
