THE WAIT is nearly over for Apple fans anticipating the new iPadOS update.

The software will be downloadable later today and promises to enhance the iPad user experience.

iPadOS – what is it?

iPadOS is software for your iPad just like iPhones get iOS updates every so often.

It's the first tablet dedicated operating system to be released by Apple.

It will provide a whole new look to the home screen and extra bonus features.

All of Apple's latest iPad releases will be compatible will iPadOS.

iPadOS release date and time

Apple hasn't revealed an official release time but if it follows the pattern of previous software releases than iPadOS should be available to download at 6pm BST.

You'll be able to download it on a compatible iPad by going to "Settings" on your device and then clicking on "General" and "Software Update".

You will need to be connected to WiFi.

iPadOS features

Apple has boasted about lots of the software's features already including Dark Mode and a QuickPath keyboard that could speed up typing.

iPadOS has also been designed to make iPads twice as fast.

The software should make it easier to navigate between apps and edit text.

Owners of both a MacBook and an iPad are also in luck because when macOS Catalina launches next month, iPadOS should work with it and turn the iPad into a second screen for the laptop that users can easily scroll their mouse between.
