New Facebook Dating feature lets you find ‘secret admirers’ in your friends list
FACEBOOK has launched a dating service inside the app that will help users hook up.
The long-awaited Facebook Dating feature is now available to users aged 18 and older – and works like rivals Tinder and Hinge.
People who decide to use Dating create a profile separate from their main Facebook page.
This lets you meet potential partners among friends or friends – or with complete strangers outside of your friend network.
Facebook will suggest matches for you based on your own interests.
You'll choose these interests when you set up your Dating profile.
However, Facebook will also pull interests from your main profile and Facebook activity in general.
When you decide you fancy someone, you can send them a "like" and a message.
There's also a "secret crush" feature that's designed to let you woo pals.
You can use this to show your interest in up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers.
And if you both "like" each other, you'll be notified.
The Facebook Dating service is completely free to use, and has no ads or in-app purchases.
And it's also tied in to Facebook Groups and Events.
That means if you're planning to attend the same Facebook Event as someone else, they might appear in your match-list.
Users of Facebook-owned Instagram can also hook their feed up to the Facebook Dating service.
This will let you add recent Instagram photos to Facebook Dating.
There are also safety features, including the ability to share details of an upcoming date with friends and family – including your live location.
Facebook Dating is only available in the USA, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam.
But it will likely roll out to other countries in the future.
Facebook says Europe can expect to get Facebook Dating early next year.
