From virtual bouncers to robot workers, what boozers of the future have in store for punters
ROBOTS serving beer that won’t give you a hangover could soon be in your local.
A bar has already installed facial recognition software to work out how long each punter has been waiting so staff know who to serve first.
And the hi-tech trial at 5cc Harrild & Sons in central London is just the start.
Graeme Culliford looks at what the boozers of the future have in store.
Robot bar workers
HONDA has already unveiled a talking robot that can open drinks and pour them. Being served by humans could become a rarity, meaning you no longer have to tip bar staff to catch their eye.
Instead, face scanners will register your presence when you get in line.
Virtual bouncers
TRYING to trick burly security guards that you are old enough to get into a pub is a rite of passage for many underage teens – but cameras of the future could make it a lot harder.
Facial recognition software can act as a virtual bouncer by scanning punters’ faces. By sending mugshots to a national database, it could confirm if they are over 18 – or even banned.
Healthy beer
BEER is great – until you wake up with a throbbing head.
Now scientists in Queensland, Australia, have developed booze that doesn’t give you a headache the next day – and they reckon it could be commonplace in our pubs. Bonza, mate!
Hi-tech beer mats
EVER wondered how many calories are in your drink? A trial run by alcohol education charity Drinkaware will tell you just that.
Simply swiping a hi-tech beer mat with a smartphone will tell you the calorie content and unit information of beer, wine and other popular drinks.
Virtual reality games
IT’S not just alien worlds and first-person shooters that you can experience through virtual reality headsets – they can allow you to play darts and pool as well.
Punters could soon be playing virtual reality versions of traditional pub games on a huge screen – watched by other drinkers like they would follow a Premier League game now.

Futuristic snacks
ANYONE fancy a packet of cyborg scratchings?
In the future, pubs could serve healthy jellyfish crisps as well as sausage rolls and pork pies made from meat grown in laboratories.
Scientists say they are close to figuring out how to create meat from cultured cells eliminating the need to raise and kill animals.
