OPPO has finally unveiled its highly anticipated under screen camera technology, which allows front facing smartphone cameras to be hidden under the screen and an uninterrupted display.
The tech company unveiled the world's first example of a smartphone with an under screen selfie camera at its Innovation Event in China, while other tech giants scramble to make a similar design.
Oppo has described the design as its "brand new solution for full-screen display".
The Chinese smartphone maker further explained on that the technology "utilises a customised camera module, an enhanced translucent panel material combined with advanced processing algorithms to take vivid pictures without a notch or motorised camera."
Benefits of an under screen front camera include the fact no notch, which normally hosts the camera, will be cutting into the smartphone display so videos can be watched uninterrupted in landscape mode.
It will also allow the phone to have a sleeker design.
Oppo emphasised that its new selfie camera "rivals current smartphones in the market today."
However, when the tech concept was first revealed Oppo VP Brian Shen said that there was bound to be "some loss in optical quality."
Just a few weeks later the company appears to have changed its tune on this.
As of yet the under screen technology has only been revealed in a prototype phone.
There is currently no word on when we'll see this technology available in an Oppo smartphone on the market.
