BREATH OF FRESH AIR

LEGEND OF ZELDA: Breath of the Wild is getting a sequel, and it's already in development.

Nintendo revealed the shocking news to gamers at the very end of their pre-E3 Direct video presentation.

A sequel is in the works for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but we don't know when it's coming out

They didn't reveal very much more than that, though a teaser trailer showed hero Link and the titular Zelda exploring what looked like a tomb.

They appear to have woken up something powerful - or maybe just arrived in time for it to wake up of its own accord - as the castle above starts to shake.

Breath of the Wild launched with the Switch in 2017, and was loved by critics and gamers alike.

There's no release date yet.

It is not just a new game in the Legend of Zelda series either - it is very specifically a sequel to Breath of the Wild, much as Majora's Mask was to Twilight Princess back in the N64 days.

Zelda fans do have plenty to be keeping them busy, though.

Nintendo's presentation featured a good look at the remake of the super-cute Link's Awakening which is coming on September 20 this year, while Cadence of Hyrule is out this Thursday, June 13.
