SNAP IT UP

SNAPCHAT has launched in-app stores for influencers.

The likes of Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian will now be able to sell users products directly from their own Snap stores.

Only select Snapchat accounts will be given this store feature privilege.

The online shops will be powered by a company called Shopify and all Snapchat users will be able to access them should they want to browse.

This feature will be limited to Snapchat users in the US for now due to privacy and data regulations in other countries like the UK.

However, Snap users will still be able to swipe up on influencers stories and be directed to the website of the product they're interested in.

Today five official in-app shops will be launched.

They will belong to Kylie Jenner (Kylie Cosmetics); Kim Kardashian (KKW Beauty); Shay Mitchell (Béis); Spencer Pratt (Pratt Daddy Crystals) and Bhad Bhabie (BHADgoods).

All of these accounts already have access to the swipe up to shop feature to promote their products.

The in-app shop feature will be brought to more accounts in the coming weeks including the accounts of Khloe Kardashian (Good American) and Rob Kardashian (Arthur George).

An Snap spokesperson has said that the company won't be taking a cut of the profits made from the Snapchat stores for the time being.

Snapchat wants to keep influencers on the platform by giving them more ways to generate revenue.

Whether the Snapchat’s in-app checkout will be any better than just being redirected to a company's website remains to be seen.

There is also the question of who will be responsible for protecting a users data once the users has used a Shopify powered Snapchat store and whether that data will be used for more targeted advertising.
