BT Sport PlayStation 4 app arrives just in time for Champions League final

PLAYSTATION fans can finally watch Champions League football on their consoles, just in time for this weekend's all-English final.

BT Sport are finally bringing their app to PS4, and it's free to download from the PSN store right now.

The match between Liverpool and Spurs will also be free for anyone to watch without you having to shell out for a BT Sport subscription.

Subscribers also get an added bonus this weekend of getting access to the HDR stream of the final in some versions of the app.

BT claim the stream is the first of its kind.

They also claim that HDR "enables the highest quality TV pictures ever seen, providing colours that are closer to how we see them in real life."

If you're using the Xbox One BT Sport app you'll definitely get it in HDR – but it's not clear if PS4 users will have the option as BT announced the HDR deal before they had released the PS4 app.

If you subscribe to BT Sport -- or get a subscription as a freebie with your mobile contract – then you can use the app to watch BT Sport 1, 2, 3, ESPN, Boxnation and any of the BT Sport Extra channels whenever you feel like it.

If you don't already subscribe, you can get an app-only subscription if you have BT Broadband.

If you don't have BT Broadband, then you'll have to pay to add it to a TV package through Sky, TalkTalk or Virgin.

You can't, unfortunately, just pay to subscribe to the app itself without any other strings attached.

All the apps are lined up to get 4K support some time this year, but you're likely to have to pay extra for the privilege once it's available.

If you want to watch the match in 4K for free, you can do so via YouTube on your PC.

This is BT's first live HDR footie broadcast, but there are more promised for next season – and getting access to those, once they're available, will also cost you extra.
