STRIKING BACK

Apex Legends’ Season 2 Battle Pass makes the game a lot more like Fortnite

APEX LEGENDS came out of the blocks hot, but it's stuttered a bit since.

It hit 50 million users in weeks but interest has since died off thanks to a series of lacklustre updates.

The next round of changes and new stuff for players looks like it could turn that around, though, and set Apex Legends back on the right path.

Season 2 is just around the corner, and for starters the new Battle Pass looks like it's going to be a lot more fun than Season 1's much-maligned offering.

You'll be able to level up with daily and weekly challenges, as you can in Fortnite, and there are going to be three top-tier outfits added to the rewards.

The dull badge and stat-tracker rewards are being swept away and replaced with something entirely new.

That's not all, though.

There's a new two-week limited-time event starting on Tuesday June 4 called The Legendary Hunt.

It's going to feature rare, epic and legendary skins - some you'll be able to get in the shop, some will be free to Season 1 Battle Pass owners, and some will be earned through completing event challenges.

Finally, it adds the Apex Elite queue for those players looking for a challenge.

You can join this queue if you finish in the top five in any given match but to keep playing at the Elite level you'll have to carry on placing in the top 5.

It's not clear if this will offer any rewards beyond more challenging and interesting games, but it's definitely an interesting idea to shake gameplay up.

More details are going to be shared at EA Play next weekend, just before E3 kicks off in Los Angeles.

EA Play will also feature the gameplay premiere of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Respawn's other big project that sees you playing as a Jedi in the time between the proper Star Wars movies and the ill-advised prequels when the last of the Jedi were being hunted and exterminated by the Empire.

If you prefer blasting your way out of problems to using a lightsaber, however, check out the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
