Call of Duty 2019 release date confirmed as leak reveals first Modern Warfare details

CALL OF DUTY fans were hoping to get their first look at 2019's game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare today, and got it much earlier than expected.

A logo for the game, its release date and first glimpses of gameplay were all briefly visible to fans who subscribe to the Call of Duty YouTube channel after the wrong things where uploaded to the event for the big reveal.

Activision teased that big reveal at 6p.m. today with a video on Twitter yesterday, before setting up the upcoming live-stream for the reveal on YouTube.

Rather than using the teaser information and images, though, someone uploaded a thumbnail to promote the event that showed the new logo and artwork.

That thumbnail also showed the release date several hours ahead of schedule.

While the exact date isn't clear in the above image, it is clearly October with debate among fans whether it is Friday October 18, or a week later on October 25.

We have known for some time that this year's iteration of the popular shooter was going to be Modern Warfare in some form, but this is the first 'official' confirmation of that fact.

Some users even got to see a snippet of what appears to be the game's trailer.

It is Infinity Ward's fourth Modern Warfare game, with 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare still held up by many as the best game in the franchise's long history.

We recently revealed that a bunch of senior staff who hard worked on Modern Warfare games over the years had recently returned to Infinity Ward.

Solid rumours emerged  that Infinity Ward's 2019 game was Modern Warfare 4, and all the signs since then have pointed in the same direction.

We don't know much about the game except that it will have a significant single-player campaign, it won't feature a battle royale mode, and looks set to ditch the specialists system in favour of a more flexible itemisation system.

In the mean time, Call of Duty: Mobile is on the way, and fans will soon be able to enjoy the remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's single player campaign.
