Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms will take you back to Skyrim in time for Christmas this year
THERE is a new Elder Scrolls game coming, and it'll be here in time for Christmas 2019.
The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms isn't The Elder Scrolls 6, alas, but it will give the tens of millions of Elder Scrolls fans a whole new way to enjoy the world of Tamriel where all the Elder Scrolls games are set.
It's a tabletop game, but one you can play by yourself against AI-driven enemies or with friends.
When it kicks off in the region of Skyrim, the game will include a single-player adventure that pits you as a Dragonborn warrior, as well as a two-player "starter set" that will let you and a friend fight the civil war as the Stormcloaks or Imperial legion, and come with rules for using the Dragonborn too.
Developer Modiphius Entertainment, who secured the license from normal Elder Scrolls firm Bethesda Softworks, promises more to come.
They have teased a return to Cyrodiil with adventures in the world of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, campaigns featuring the areas covered in Elder Scrolls Online "and more".
The games use miniatures to represent your characters, with the Skyrim's Dragonborn the first to be revealed.
When playing the game you'll have as many as six different heroes to control, and up to fifteen generic troops to marshall.
The story-driven scenarios will tie together, so you band of heroes will "grow from game to game" as you go on quests, fight wars and raid dungeons for treasure.
For Elder Scrolls fans, the news of "metal tokens, deluxe dice bags, settlement journals and more" coming with the miniatures seems pretty exciting, as well as the opportunity to dive deeper into the lore that is at the hear of the series' success.
You can find out more about the game, and how to get your own Dragonborn ahead of the game's full release, .
Modiphius' other games include the hugely popular Vampire: The Masquerade and Star Trek Adventures as well as games based on iconic franchises like Dune, Thunderbirds and John Carter.
They're part of a huge resurgence in tabletop gaming around the world that's being driven by companies and legions of players in the UK.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed at E3 last year but won't be at this year's gaming extravaganza in Los Angeles. It might possibly be out at some point in 2022, but even that is looking optimistic at this point.
