Netflix plan to launch more video games will be revealed at E3 next month – here’s what to expect

NETFLIX is going to reveal a bunch of games tied to its biggest shows next month.

The streaming service is going to reveal all at E3, the annual extravaganza in Los Angeles when gaming companies traditionally reveal their wares for the year to come.

The second Stranger Things game is due out in July, and unlike the previous game, this one is stepping beyond mobile to consoles and PC too.

It will have a similar retro feel to the previous 16-bit mobile game, with gameplay inspired by a number of different 80s video games.

But there are more games coming too.

Netflix has revealed it's going to host a panel at E3 called "Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games".

The company promised gaming news, and confirmed that as well as that new Strange Things game there was "definitely more to come".

It's possible Netflix will also tell the industry audience at the trade show about the problems it's had bringing shows to life.

There was a Stranger Things project in the works at Telltale Games before that studio went belly up last year.

While Telltale's Walking Dead games did get finished off by someone else, it is thought the Stranger Things project died with it.

Netflix's other game crossovers include the creepy Black Mirror choose-your-own-adventure project Bandersnatch and Minecraft: Story Mode.

One hint as to what's coming comes from the fact that the announcement was made from the official Twitter account, used to promote "everything super, sci-fi, the fantastic, and beyond."

Despite the "super" its unlikely that Netflix Marvel series such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones or The Punisher are what's being talked about, as Marvel still owns all the rights to those characters.

We'd love to see Sense8 come back as a video game series, though Altered Carbon, Umbrella Academy and The Order all seem much more likely.

The idea of a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina video game is pretty exciting too.

The news of the streaming firm's increasing interest in games comes just as other companies show more interest in streaming games.

Google Stadia promises a Netflix-like streaming experience for blockbuster video games running on the same sorts of devices that run Netflix.

Microsoft has its own streaming service which it plans to reveal more details of at E3, but has made it clear it just sees streaming as one way of delivering games with consoles and PCs still the best place to play.
