Game of Thrones Xbox mystery as Microsoft posts teasers
MICROSOFT has revealed its mysterious teasers hinting at something new and Game of Thrones related were for two limited-edition Xbox Ones.
One short clip, posted on , showed a box covered in dragon scales and emblazoned with the sigil of house Targaryen, surrounded by flames.
It was accompanied by the words "And now your wait begins" -- a quote that harks back to the earliest chapters of the book series and television show.
It is a play on "And now your watch begins," which are the final words spoken as a new member of the Nights Watch, the group who guard the huge icy northern wall in A Song of Ice And Fire.
Because the video very clearly showed the edge of a box, many have surmised the tease is for a new limited-edition Xbox.
These theories were proved correct, with Microsoft revealing there were two one-of-a-kind consoles to be won as part of a global social media giveaway.
Another similar video , but showing the symbol of the Night King, but with an icy background.
Ful details of the consoles and competition have since been , with the Targaryen console being given away on Twitter and the Night King version going to fans on Facebook.
Elaborate pop culture tie-in Xboxes are nothing new -- Microsoft is currently running a to give away a bunch of customised Godzilla Xbox Ones, for instance.
These are all 3D monstrosities with scales on several sides, spines and the like, making a dragonscale-covered Game of Thrones one seem much less random than it might first seem.
It could also, of course, be related to a game for the series.
Several developers have had a crack at a Game of Thrones game, but no-one has yet managed to create a successful big-budget blockbuster game based on the hit franchise.
Another possibility is that it ties into the upcoming 4K release of the show.
One selling point of the Xbox over the PlayStation 4 for Game of Thrones fans is its Blu Ray playing ability.
The Xbox One is capable of playing 4K Blu-Ray discs, with the Xbox One S being arguably the best-value 4K Blu-ray player on the market at the moment.

While only the very first season of Game Of Thrones is currently available to buy in 4K, it is widely expected that details of a full set will be revealed at some point.
With less than two weeks to go until the last-ever episode is broadcast news about that is expected very soon.
And what better way to celebrate, other than with a fresh cup of coffee, than with a dragon-scorched Xbox One to play it on?
